Reviews on both iPhoto and iWeb are now available in my iWeb Blog.

Is there any way to adjust the output quality of the images iWeb exports? or change it from using .png to .jpg for certain images?

Images that could be as little as probably 40-50kb are MUCH larger. :eek:

For example, that snowboarder image is 380k... if I bring it into Photoshop and export it has a high quality .jpg file, I can get the size to around 46k. The first image of the mountains is a whopping 488k, and the size of the page load just keeps adding up from there.

I wouldn't dare visit that page with a dial-up internet connection. :eek:

(EDIT: that's not meant to discourage you... I like what you've done. It's just that the images are freakin' huge! :) )
 
Good review, very easy to read and follow. Most of the things I already knew from the keynote, but it was nice to see you step through them and then allow me to look at the differences. I think that the new iPhoto and iDVD are the most exciting for me. I use iPhoto all the time, so any improvements and additions are a plus. I don't use iDVD as much, I usually just want to make a quick DVD with videos and photos, not wanting to deal with what theme, lay-out, etc. The new Magic iDVD will be great for me. I can just drag the movies and photos into the project and it does the rest.

The mountains are from apples template, and I have not adjusted them, now you say I will, I just thought it was my connection being slow. Thanks


p.s. Why would Apple do this? how stupid is that!

Edit: I have gone through the whole of website compressing all of apples artwork! At least when I review iWeb I have something to talk about... LOL

Edit 2: I will also make the images in my next reviews clickable so you can see the large image.
 
Nice site.

Is there any way of 'exporting' the website files to your local hard drive, so that you can upload to another web-host (i.e. not .mac)?

Or is iWeb hard coded to use .mac?

You certainly can, Just go to file and instead of choosing publish to .mac press publish to folder, you are then given the option to save it to a folder and also the ability to add the url of the site you want to upload it to for the rss feeds. you will however have to manually upload the website to the server.

p.s. I have decided to leave iPhoto reviews for a bit and will go straight iWeb reviews, showing you exactly what this new app can do.. Stay tuned..

Smashing! I was interested in the iPhoto and iMovie updates, but if iWeb can be used on my existing ISP hosting, then an upgrade to iLife 06 may have just been justified in my mind.
 
The comments thing for photos was there before but you could only access it at the Library view which is useful for Batch comments but wasn't so good if you wanted to add something as you edited. Ratings too couldn't be done in edit.

iPhoto 6 brings them both up in the full screen edit mode which is a definite plus! Wish there was also a way to see the EXIF data in there too though...
 
Will iPhoto now read white balance info from the EXIF data for RAW files?

If not, iLife '06 is a no go.
 
Another thing - when you generate a 'picture' page, can you include the comments info for each picture from iPhoto as well as the title info?

I like to use a short title with the comments info to explain a little more about the pictures.

It only comes up with the actual image name, I'm not sure if there is away around this.

You can put whatever text you want under each picture if you make a picture page. It defaults to the picture title, but you can change it to whatever you want.

Exactly. I like this feature using the Galeriesites app. I simply select pics from iPhoto, it generates the pages etc, adding date/title/comments info for either the thumbnails or the full size pics or both.

Nice iWeb review cwedl. I think I'm more interested in the iPhoto and iMovie updates. When are you doing an iMovie review? :)
 
Does iweb have any export features like to FTP server or maybe just exporting the files? I'm gonna use dreamweaver because I need it, but even after helping some people get dreamweaver up and running they refuse to use it. But iweb will be useful only if it can FTP to servers.

Unfortunately its does not have a 'FTP to server' function as discussed in my review, This probably is Apples way of trying to get people to buy .Mac. Rapidweaver may be a good bet for you here

Thanks, I will try and do some iMovie reviews in the next three weeks, Just the fact that I have exams and dissertation work to get done.

Well at the moment I think Rapidweaver is a more established and mature version of iWeb.

I can see Rapidweaver incorporating Podcasting etc, at the moment it supports both uploading to .Mac accounts and other servers, so will appeal to people that don't have .Mac accounts.
 
I'm really liking the new iPhoto. Very fast indeed. And I like the full-screen edit mode & two picture compare modes.

You could alway do a disertation on iLife 06? Probably not quite relevant to your studies though. (I did manage to get away with a computer studies dissertation at the end of my BSc Electronics Eng at DeMontfort Uni though!) :)

I think iLife 05 or 06, Gimp and NVU will do me for the moment - at least until I get to where I would like to progress to Final Cut Express etc.

I think this just about sums up my thoughts of iPhoto - a nice photo manager and a plus that it has some quick n' dirty touch up features built-in. The full screen edit and picture compare would come in useful for me :)
