I've got a question about working with iPhoto 2, and I couldn't find an answer anywhere in the forums.

Simply put, is there a way to see just the photos in the Library that have not yet been assigned to one of the albums?

I've imported about 900 photos into iPhoto 2 and I've been putting them into Albums. Now, for the most part, I can view by date and everything from one event gets pulled together, but I don't want everything that way. I'm to the point where I can't tell, from the Library, what's been "put" into an album and what hasn't.

Is there a way to either select a pic and see what albums it's been assigned to, or filter the view so unassigned photos are left?

Thanks!

I use iPhoto a lot, and I don't think there is any possible way to do that in iPhoto 2. But it can be done in iPhoto 4 using smart albums. So, unless you upgrade, I guess you're out of luck.

Hmm... well, it seem like I pretty much just got my eMac and hadn't even looked at iPhoto 4 (or iLife4). I kinda hate that as soon as I get something, new versions come out that I have to buy (as oppose to upgrade for free of course  )

I guess I go research iPhoto 4 to see what's new.

Thanks!

i agree with dukemeiser. i don't think there a way from the overall library to tell if the picture has been assigned to an album or not. perhaps because you can assign each picture to as many albums as you like..?

the trick i used to use is to dump the photos, put them into albums then edit the picture name and comments within the album... so when i went back to the overall library, i knew which pics weren't yet assigned to any of the albums - the ones with original camera assigned filenames.

Oh, well, DUH! That's a great idea... nothing wrong with procedure over function/feature. I just wish I'd have thought of that before.

Now I need to figure out a good process for identifying what's still unassigned. Can I print a list of picture names in each album (or a contact sheet w/file names perhaps)?

I suppose if I really cared, I could trash the library and reimport and rename and re-keyname and.... naaahhhh!

Thanks!

good luck with sorting... but i completely agree that this is a feature that should be included in iPhoto. and i think it's very easy to implement... when you select a photo, simply highlight the albums the photo is in... oh well.
