iPhoto 4 issues

Hi well I installed iPhoto 4 and it didnt recognize my existing library, but it did find all of the existing albums, just they were empty. I tried to import my photos and they wont add to my library! When I first installed, the app didnt have the iPhoto icon and refused to launch. I have installed from both the DVD and the CD the program now launches but the above program exists.

Ok well I reinstalled iPhoto 2 and was able to import some photos. I only added a few test 130 photos. I went and reinstalled iPhoto 4. It found my library this time and updated it but still will not import photos either by dragging from finder or using the dialog box to select whole folders or photos. Ideally I would like to just select my pictures folder and have it take all of the photos in subfolders and such that iPhoto made and add them all. I noticed something odd. my install of iPhoto 4 doesn't seem to have a help file. (Help Viewer is blank)
