Iphoto 9.2.3 after El Capitan upgrade - problem to solve

Having upgraded from to OSX 10.6.8 to El Capitan 10.11 i find that my 9.2.3 iphoto will not work.

My questions are:
1. Cannot upgrade iphoto as AppStore does not recongise my ID. I'm thinking this may be because my original Apps came via the boxed DVD's when i purchased the Macbook. Is there anyway around this?

2. Is there any upgrade route from my ancient version to a version that will work with this old Mac and El Capitan?

3. Is there any way of moving my images from the non-working iphoto to the Photos app i now have following the El Capitan upgrade?

4. Is the Photos app a replacement that would negate me requiring iphoto? Does it have more or less facility?

I have the same questions and concerns. The iPhoto icon has a big circle-&-slash over it since El Capitan was installed (on my 2008, 15" MBP). What gives?
