Well this is my story, I share my mac with my neighbor (its hers but she hardly uses it) I recently gave it back to her for a week or two because she needed it to make a newsletter. She called me a few days ago that I could pick it back up if i wanted to. So I did, all of my prefrences on my dock, desktop, folders, all stayed the same. However my iPhoto pictures that i had organized... are gone, the raw files are still there but the pictures are gone... any way to fix this? or know wat caused the problem...

It's pretty hard to say anything definite without asking her what she's been up to. Are you saying all your files are still there? In the Pictures folder, is there still an iPhoto Library folder filled with images (and seemingly randomly-named files)? If you Get Info (File menu) on this folder, is it still quite large (in terms of megabytes)? :)

I use an external HD for all of the pictures, its hooked up and I can find where i put my iPhoto Library folder, its just not being looked at by iPhoto

So you still have your library then? Brilliant. :)

Okay, rename the library in the Pictures folder to Previous iPhoto Library or whatever you want (something recognisable is always nice) whilst iPhoto is closed. Next time you open it, you should get a dialogue box asking to Quit, Create A Library or Find A Library. Choose to Find A Library and point it towards the folder on your external. Hopefully this'll work, I haven't done it for ages.
