iPhoto and Nikon RAW images equals dark?

Hi,

I just got a new Nikon D50 and I've been shooting my pictures in RAW format. When I imported them into iPhoto they were really dark. I then installed the software that came with the Nikon called Picture Project and imported the photos and they look great.

Why would the same photos look different?

Is there anything I can do in iPhoto so that they import correctly? I really would prefer to use iPhoto!
