iphoto crashes on pressing "info"

When I open iPhoto, select an image and then press the info button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, iPhoto quits unexpectedly. The sequence of events is as follows:


Open iPhoto
Select a photo
Click on "info"
iPhoto quits
Message comes up: iPhoto quit unexpectedly. Click re-open to open the application.
There is also a window showing "problem details and configuration".


Click reopen
A small window appears saying: iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library. Please click repair to avoid any potential problems.
Click Repair
Reopen iPhoto.
Repeat the first three steps above: iPhoto quits again.


Reopen iPhoto with the option and command keys held down
Select Rebuild library
Reopen iPhoto.
Repeat the first three steps above: iPhoto quits again.


Run iPhoto Library manager.
Select Rebuild Library.
Open rebuilt library.
Repeat the first three steps above.
iPhoto closes again.

This happens only when I click "info". I have tested most of the other functions in iPhoto, and they do not seem to cause this problem.


My setup:
Late 2011 imac
OS X 10.8.5
iPhoto 11 v.9.4.2


I would appreciate any suggestion to help fix this problem.

Stop using iPhoto and/or stop using the info button. Apple has moved on from Aperture and iPhoto....do likewise.

Thank you for your reply. If your statement that " Apple has moved on from Aperture and iPhoto.." is meant to imply that Photos is an improvement on those programs then I have to disagree with you. Photos has been very widely criticised on the web as a dumbed down program, designed to appeal to the happy snappers with their iPhones and selfie sticks.

I have fixed the problem with iPhoto ( the answer is here <<http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/applications/index.html#d04dec2015>>), and when I no longer wish to use it, I will be changing to one of the many non-Apple products which are available, despite the fact that I have not used a non-Apple program since 1983.

The remark was in no way meant to imply Photos is an improvement on anything. When Apple abandoned Aperture, that was the end of any serious photography support from Apple. Photos is for the casual IOS photographer doing snap shots. Serious photographers have long since moved on to Lightroom, Capture One Pro, or other DAM and editing packages.

I tried "the fix" mentioned in post 3 above.

It works in 10.8.5, using iPhoto 9.4.1.

I don't care about having google find where the photo was taken...
