iPhoto export to Photoshop

quite simply how

the photos in iPhoto are in iPhoto, and i can't get to the through open file in photoshop

very confused as it would be handy for my assignment which is due tomorrow

quick answers will be much appreciated

What isn't working with it? You should be able to navigate into the iPhoto folder and open them either inside Photoshop or through the Finder. Are you getting any error message or is the folder locked?

when i go through finder, the iPhoto library is an iPhoto icon, and it just opens up iPhoto...when i go through PS/openfile it's just another non picture file that won't open

btw i have iLife 08

Try this, go in through the Finder, highlight a file, either right-click or control-click and select Open With... choose Photoshop. Are the iPhoto file regular old jpegs?

yep they are

*btw when i go through finder...the 'iPhotoLibrary icon only opens up iPhoto...when i go in there and finf info on the pics, it says they are jpegs

Are you trying to open the library or the actual photo?

I have iLife 06, but I imagine 08 is the same. Right click on the photo in iPhoto, then select, "show file." This will bring up the actual photo in the finder. Then right click again and use "open with" to open in photoshop.

Or in your iPhoto Preferences set your preferred editing application to be Photoshop and then whenever you click on an image to edit it, it will automatically open in Photoshop and save the updated image correctly in iPhoto.

i know exactly what you're both saying, and that's why i'm confused...cos it ain't working

the files are located inside the iPhoto library...if i go in finder via the library...all there is is an icon which opens up iPhoto...if i try to open a file from there all i get is an unopenable icon (the iPhoto library icon)

I don't get it... do you not see the photos in iPhoto? You could also just drag your photo directly from iphoto to the photoshop icon in your dock.

well i got away with using the grab tool last night..but thanks, i now have learned something cool...tell me, does this drag to program icon in dock function work for other programs?

Yes, rather a lot of them. You'll always know because the name of the program comes up when you drag the file over it if it can receive the catch.

Also setting Photoshop as the default external editor is a good idea... that way, you can navigate in iPhoto, send the photo to PS, and then when you quit PS, iPhoto will allow you to revert the PS modifications back to the original file. If you set up the behavior in prefs (I haven't used 08 yet, but the previous versions work this way) so that double clicking launches the external editor, then define the external editor, and then set it back to editing in iPhoto, then when you right click the photo, you can still choose external editor and have PS launch. My favorite iPhoto trick.

I never knew you could do that! I tried it in iPhoto 08 and it works, great tip!

Ok, this is my first post and pardon me for hijacking a resolved thread but this seems to be a good place for my question.

I have used the same PC with minimal updates since 2002 with my latest version of PS being CS. Now, I have an iMac, CS3 and my little world is very different than it was last week.

I love how iPhoto finds the files and categorizes them automatically. But, I resent seeing all the ads for prints, calendars, etc. at the bottom of the page.

Oh, my question, is there a way to view images in iPhoto with PS Browser (Bridge). Thanks.

Then go to the View Menu/Show in Toolbar and untick what you don't want to see on the bottom toolbar.

I don't think you can open Bridge from in iPhoto. However, if you untick the option in preferences to copy imported items to the library then you retain a regular folder structure that Bridge can see.

I'm a new Mac user so I hope I explained that clear enough assuming of course that you are talking about iPhoto '08.
