How do you use iPhoto? I don't use it like apple wants me to. I use it to showcase the photos that I would like to show other people. The other not showworthy photos are just archived in folders.

I wish apple would make a better photo viewer from the finder.

Erm, I use it for all my photos. I've never had a problem with it but I'm hardly a power user.

I agree, it'd be nice if Finder handled photos better. Dare I say it, almost like Explorer...

Do you know what would be nice? A brand new iPhoto built from the ground up. ;)

i agree.

i have all my photos on it (ipod sync) and being a student on 512 ram, its a curse to open.

But yeh, a refreshed interface would be very nice.

Any hope at all in ilife 06?

Take it you've done the usual things to speed it up? Turn off the drop shadows, make the background show the pics on black rather than white and view the picture as film rolls (and keep them closed when not using them). Makes it much faster to load and view...

There's also a viewpoint on the Apple boards that it's certain brands of cameras (and their Makernotes) which cause havoc with iPhoto. Most Makernotes are less than 4KB but on some cameras, this expands up to about 50KB. These all get dropped into your iphoto.library file which iPhoto has to read when it loads the pictures and those with particularly slow load-time often had comparatively large iphoto.library files to those with quicker load times and different cameras.

I do use iPhoto for all my photos, but I think it could use some improvement - particularly the filing system - it should be more like iTunes library. And I would really like to see slideshow ability within Finder.

There is slideshow capability in the Finder (Tiger)

Select the photo's you want to see - ctrl click and select "slideshow" from the menu - voila!:D
Great! I've never taken the time to notice that  iPhoto has it's strengths, but sometimes all you want is the finder to flip thru photos, and slideshow view is the ideal way to do it.

Once again Mac OS X prevails...
