Is there any way to have iPhoto just add the pictures to the library without making copies of all the pictures and putting them into it's own directories? I'd like to leave my pictures how I've sorted them and not double the space needed to have them in iPhoto.

iPhoto is like iTunes. It manages the files and their locations and lets you work with your photos.

The idea of iPhoto is that it's a centralised place to work with your photos, you want to look at them? iPhoto. You want to edit them? iPhoto. You want to burn them to CD? iPhoto.

With iPhoto you never have to (and just plain shouldn't) mess with the files themselves. Just copy all your pictures into iPhoto, delete them from their original location and use iPhoto for all the things you want to do.

I'd like to have the option of saving after editing or not. I have an iPhoto library approaching 9000 photos and a lot of them are edited, mostly very minor but it all adds up.

iPhoto still needs work.
