I have the beta version of iPhoto and when i try to change the settings or try to turn on Photostream, it crashes. Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to fix it?

iphoto keeps crashing

Last night I updated to the latest version of iPhoto (9.2?) to be compatible with iCloud. First, iPhoto would crash each time I clicked on PhotoStream, but now it just crashes as soon as iPhoto launches, even if PhotoStream is not selected. I thought the iCloud servers were just hammered, so I tried again this morning, but got the same problem.

SOLUTION:
Apparently, the 3vix codec was causing the crashing. I ran the 3vix uninstaller application and now I can open iPhoto and PhotoStream with no problems. Strange but true.

Hope this helps

Amazing. spent HOURS looking all over the web for the answer and like an idiot, did not come here first. This was absolutely the fix. Works perfectly now that 3vix is uninstalled.

REMIND ME??? WHAT IS 3vix and why did I have it in the first place?

thanks

Worked for me too

And I wanna know why Apple hasn't corrected this bug. Ditto on thejeffcruz remark: What is 3vix and why was it on my machine?

i only found a few leftover things from 3ivx.....i deleted those, but it still didn't help. I never found an uninstaller program though....was it in your Applications folder?

Uninstalling 3vix worked for me too! Apple needs to address this soon!!

3ivx is definitely the problem

I uninstalled 3ivx and iPhoto started running like a champ again. For those that were asking, you can find the uninstaller in Applications > 3ivx > Uninstall 3ivx.

3ivx

This worked for me too. I couldn't believe my eyes when my iPhoto kept crashing with no way to disable photo streaming. What is 3ivx and can I delete the entire file?

I just did a search in Finder for 3ivx and got nothing. Today when I tried to load iPhoto, I had a message saying I first had to install some update to the library that would take a long time and that after that was none, the library would no longer work with something (the old version, I think it said).

So I chose not to run that update till I knew more. Is that related to the issue being discussed here, and if so, should I hold off updating iPhoto?

Thanks.

Thank you so much, kasclark! I spent hours over several days deleting prefs, rebuilding every possible thing and still couldn't stop the crashing. In a million years I never would have thought to uninstall 3ivx. Everything is now perfect. I just had to rebuild all my thumbnails one last time.

THANK YOU!
