does anyone know why iPhoto and image capture wont recognise my digital camera anymore? i made a short video on it, and it wouldnt import. it came up in the finder on the desktop, and i dragged the file but quicktime just hung when i tried to open it.

i formatted my cameras card via my camera, then rebooted, took one picture and plugged it into my mac, and iphoto recognised it. i took it out, reshot the little film i made and again, same problem.

image capture wont recognise it too. its a pentax optio s40. its never done any of this before. why would it show in the finder but not iPhoto?

can someone help? cheers

What version of iPhoto do you have? This is a bit of a weird problem. You need the latest version to work well (if not at all) with videos from memory. :)

ver 5.0.4. could it be maybe my SD card or the USB cable is a bit dirty so the mac has trouble reading it?

What file format is the video recording in?

You've saved it to the desktop -yes? It might be that if you're trying to play it direct from the memory card, that the USB connection isn't fast enough to transfer the data - not all cameras have true USB 2 ports.

Try putting on the desktop and trying again. Then try opening it in something like VLC which should play most formats.
