I am a new user to Macs and I take a lot of pictures. I have been using iphoto to store and organize my photos. However when I go to my computers finder and click on the picture folder and then my iphoto library, the pictures are not organized by their album/folder description like how I had made them in iphoto. Instead they are organized by numbers. There is a 2005 folder and once you open that it lists folders numbered from 1-12 for all the months. After opening a month folder the pictures are put into additional folders that are also numbered. This becomes very frustrating because when trying to put pictures on the web it becomes a guessing game as to where my photos are stored. Many times half of an album is in one folder, with the other half being in another folder. Is this the way your pictures are supposed to be organized or have I gone wrong somewhere?

Yes, this is how it is supposed to be, they are stored by date(year, month, day) that they photo was taken originally. Viewing iPhoto's stored pictures via the Finder really isn't meant to be done, iPhoto has its own way of storing and accessing files, which I agree with you, is a pain if you want to manually access the pictures. With iPhoto though its meant for you to access your pictures through iPhoto.
If organizing all your photos in one album is a pain you can use iPhoto Buddy, which lets you make individual albums(so you could save each grouped set/photoshoot to its own album). You would still have to access the pictures via iPhoto in conjunction with iPhoto Buddy(as it still stores them the same way), but you would be able to save each set of pictures you want in their own seperate album. It makes it much easier to use iPhoto this way.

I try to tell everyone that they have to think about iPhoto the same way they think of iTunes. You wouldn't go through the finder to play a song, you would find it in iTunes, do the same with iPhoto. If you need a photo, open iPhoto, then either drag it to the desktop or export it or copy it from there.
