i was wondering how to resize images, and if there is other base applications that come standard on a iMac please tell, i just wanna make an image a little smaller than it is.

you select the image, and get it in a screen like in the bottom picture. then you click and drag to make a selection (shown in bottom picture). after you do the dragging you can click the little box to drag it around, or you can try it again. once you are happy with what you have, just click crop.

If you are good with terminal, there is a command called "sips", it is very good for basic image manipulation (resize, convert, crop, rotate etc.) Type:

sips -h

It should give you a bit more info.

For example, if you type:

sips --resampleWidth 640 original.jpg --out new.jpg

I believe it keeps the aspect ratio and creates a new jpg file that is 640 pixels wide. I am not infron of a Mac right now, so I cannot check for sure.

oah, i would download that but its not a universal binary :(

Oh, sorry. I will try to find one for you.

EDIT: Try this out. Just copy and paste the script, it has the instructions all there. Seems pretty simple.

you didnt have to but thanks!;)

  • Click on the photo you want to resize
  • Command-E (Export)
  • In that window you can change the size
Sorted.

EDIT: (To Export use 'Command-Shift-E')
Also forgot to add that this was in iPhoto!

iPhoto has an "Export" command in the menu. It lets you resize the photo on export.

It doesn't let you resize photos in your library, as that doesn't really make sense. Why resize a 5+ MP photo to 640x480 and keep *that* in your master library?
