iPod Ipod 160gb not working..HELP!!

I have a 160gb that will no longer work, When I plug it in it tells me that it needs to be restored so I tell it to do it but it later tells me that it cant restored because I do not have enough privileges. Is there a program that can assist me with this issue? Thanks
