Hello,

I’m the new owner of a 1st Gen iPod with 5GB storage. But it has a problem.

When I connect the iPod to the Power-Adapter with the FireWire-Cable, the iPod restarts and after the restart it shows a checkmark and say „OK to disconnect“. My working iPod (also 1st gen, 5GB) doesn’t restart, it just shows a charging battery-meter and keeps on playing the music.

When the iPod is charging in the "OK to disconnect"-Mode the rear panel/ the battery is getting very hot.

When I connect the iPod to my Macbook Pro (using a 400 to 800 FireWire-Adapter), the iPod restarts (that is normal!) and after the restart it shows the a checkmark and say „OK to disconnect“. My working iPod shows less than 1 second „OK to disconnect“ and then quickly says „Do not disconnect“.

A full charged battery (1 tried 2 new ones) looses the whole charge after 1 day!

The Disk Mode doesn’t work either! I tried different cables and computers.

The FireWire port is working correctly, all 6 pins are properly soldered. I guess there is a defect at the motherboard, but I down’t know how to find out!

Can someone help me?

Yeah it’s a common issue with those. I had like 2 1st gen iPods that didn’t want to connect. It charged fine but no connection to computer. FW port also looked intact. Pins also looked like they were making contact with board.
