iPod 3g

Well I have a chance to nab an iPod 3g 20 gig for $85. Catch is it's battery has a life-span of 3 hours... and it doesn't have headphones... but the dock is included... Is it worth it?

I think that sounds like a decent deal. Do keep in mind, however, that Apple's iPod updaters haven't 'updated' the 3rd gen iPods for awhile now.

A very good deal if the Firewire cable is included and the display isn't overly scratched. I wouldn't worry about the updaters -- there's really nothing to update, the 3G works just fine as-is.

honestly, i wouldn't. 3 hours and dropping fast, I'd bet. If you've got a lot of music and not a lot of cash on hand, it's not bad. But I'd so much rather get a newer, in-warranty ipod that isn't already close to the battery bottoming out.

If the unit isn't too badly beat up, I'd say it's a good deal. Just replace the battery yourself with a new one.

Exactly. I also have one which although the battery isn't dying is plugged in all the time and is my living room stereo.

3 hours of battery life sounds about normal for a 3rd gen ipod...No I kid...(that model had some of the worst battery life to begin with, but it's also the best looking ipod ever made, man I wish I still had mine).

Normal after 2-3 years of fairly careful use. Mine is 2 1/2 years old and still good for 3-4 hours at least, if I select a playlist and just let it play. New, it played for about six hours.

I still use my 3G iPod for everyday use. Obviously it's not that good for battery life, but for 20 GB worth of space, ( a good 14 days worth of music in AAC) $100 ain't too bad. Also if you don't really need the photo or video capabilities (I wouldn't use them that much, even if I had them) this is a perfect iPod.

I have a 15GB 3G and I can get at least 4 hours during normal use, or between 5 and 6 if I do the battery test the way Apple tells you to. I guess I got lucky.

If it gets the job done thats what matters.. Plus like someone else said 26 for the battery is not bad at all.

Pick up some iCleaner to remove the scratches. Works pretty well on my 3G.

How long will a new battery last? I figure it will still be less than 6 hours because of the touch sensitive buttons... The website just says 30% longer than the original apple battery...

Most of the batterys you can buy can last very long, ive heard of some lasting about 10 hours!

My 3g 15gb has been replaced 3 times by waranty, and now has a 3 hr battery but is out of waranty. The odd thing is that it only plays for 10 minutes, then it dies. Then it turns back on and plays 15, then dies, then 10, dies, 15 dies and so on. Very irritating. I have shelved it and am using my PSP until the 6g (widescreen video perhaps?) come out. Still, my first and only Ipod and it has always been great.

I'm still not sure what to buy and where from. Shipping is $20 from otherworld... Is there any place in Canada that sells the NuPower Batteries? What should I do?

Future Shop has some replacement ipod batteries, not sure if they will have the older ones though...
