iPod iPod (5th Generation) Wont Restore

i have this problem with my iPod (5th Generation). when i connect to itunes, it tell me to restore which i do. it then restarts and tell tells me to connect and restore again.
the do not disconnect and all other instructions on the ipod does not appear in colour anymore. it's now in back and white.
i have updated itunes to 7.7, put in hard disk mode........and i dont have an apple store here.
i cant use it now. whats happening?

Do you have AppleCare? If yes, then you'll want to call Apple and ask what to do.

If not, you could take a huge chance at the wrap-it-in-a-towel-and-smack-it-on-the-table method (once, flat against it). Have done that before with success, although you risk damaging the drive even further. If under AppleCare of course don't do it.

IMO you should call Apple first, though and walk through what could be the cause of the problem.
