Guys

Am trying to do a thing for my brother but am handless at this sort of thing and dont think I have the right tools. I know some of you did this for someone else earlier in the month and would love someone to take pity on me too. Would love it as a black sillouette on a plain coloured blackground with the hockey stick white ( as per the ipod earphone leads ) .

Somewhere on the picture could you include the words

i-coach

Please help me out

Andy

I don't know why people insist on asking for free graphic design service on this forum.

Capable and professional designers do not work for free. Graphic Design is not a hobby, it is a career choice and main source of income for most of the members of this forum.

Requesting work for free demonstrates a lack of understanding and respect.

Why not take the time and learn to create the image on your own?

What jerryrock said.

Nothing in Life is Free. Get used to it.

@smythandy - Sorry, I can't help you but I would if I could. But I agree with the others, it's not a great present if you don't sacrifice something. That being said, we don't even know if it's a present or just... something.

@ jerryrock - There are forums that are specifically for graphic requests that "Capable and professional designers" fill for free. And who says it can't be a hobby?

Dont mean to turn this into a discussion but things in life can be free, it's called sharing.

Right, do you share with every stranger your wallet?

1. it takes time
2. people get paid >$100 / hour for doing such work
3. the idea is questionable as the end user might get in trouble for copyright issues

well anyone who charges >$100/h for tracing a person with the lasso tool and then filling it with black is a douche

I agree that he should just learn it himself since there are tons of tutorials about that ipod style and its one of the easiest things you can do. But its not like he asked for a website or a logo, people are freaking out like they expect to get paid big money for something so stupidly easy.

changed that one a bit - even I think $100 (£50) an hour is a tad high and I'm a designer

If its so easy why don't you do it for free then

Sometimes something simple can take a long time to get right, its time that costs not the actual methods used to create things. Besides it wouldn't be so bad if the op had a few more posts, he/she is still listed as a newbie (1 post at this moment - thats the request for free work!) so they're not exactly a major contributing member are they.

And to the original poster - the rules at top of this part of the forum say about no free work etc.

Taken in the context of my statement, I was referring to the majority of professionals that belong to this forum.

Soup kitchens and homeless shelters give away free food and housing, but even they are subsidized by donations and federal funds.

Professional organizations like AIGA discourage SPEC work and encourage their members to do the same. I am a proud member.

because its easy enough for him to do it himself with a free trial of photoshop or any free graphics program

This wouldnt take a long time to get right, its one of the most basic things you can do. Im not sure what kind of problems you expect to run into with an ipod picture.

Why is everyone so angry. Just don't do it then. I used to make graphics for free all of the time because I LOVE TO DESIGN (Shocker I know). And you know why? It gives you a reason to practice and make yourself a better designer, it allows you to interact with a client, and they just might come to you later for paid work! I can say it paid off.

Not saying I'm going to do it! I paid my dues though, I worked web sites for 200 bucks a pop when I started, but it paved the way for me and my business...I just think some people need to get off their high horses.
