ipod battery life??

i have a 10gb 2nd gen ipod with a quoted "ten hours battery". i fully charged on sunday night and started playing. i had eq on, backlight for 2 seconds, and an itrip plugged in about half the time. the battery died today, after only 3.5 hours!

if i do not use the itrip, and use a casette adapter instead, will i see a huge increase in battery life? is it the eq? or do i need to keep the backlight off to get 10 hours of battery? 3.5 isnt enough!

but, how old is ur ipod, there are a lot of factors that affect battery life, and the quoted 10 hours is like under ideal conditions, and should be taken at face value,

if you did a lot of scrolling and changing tracks that affect bat life since hard drive has to start spinning to go to that track (sometimes you can hear or feel the ipod start up) when its moving to another song,

i havent had any experience with the itrip, but that could be a possible factor, sucking pup more juice thean normal headphones

and lastly if ur ipod is old, the its bat might eve loosing its capacity, part of the normal lifespan of li ion
 
Well, did you actually have around 10 hours of battery life when you first purchased and used it? It seems battery vendors give generous claims in regards to their battery life. I've got a 3rd generation 20GB iPod and everyone knows the uncertainty in regards to their battery life since the 2.1 firmware update. Depending on how old your iPod is could be a factor in the decline of battery life. Not an owner of a Griffin iTrip, I couldn't tell you as to whether that would considerably shorten a battery life. I imagine Griffin Technologies designed the iTrip to draw as little power off the iPod as possible.

After re-reading your post you mentioned you fully charged the iPod on Sunday night and "started playing." The iPod died as of today, Wednesday, if I read you correctly, after only been playing a total of 3.5 hours? Well if this is the case, I highly doubt the iPod will retain its charge over the course of 3-4 days without beginning to drain itself while it's not being used.

A cassette deck adapter probably will save you some power since the iTrip won't have to constantly scan over an FM station for a clear signal. Although you're better off finding an AC adapter to charge your iPod while using it in the car with the iTrip.
 
sorry bout the wrong board, figured that mac\hardware would suffice. anywyas i bought it new last jan, but had it replaced in july due to hd issues. This was a replacement but i dont know if it is refurbished or what. anyways, its basically 6mos old. im doing a test now, letting it play as long as possible on a one hour charge, to see what results i get with no itrip, backlight, scrolling, skipping, etc. ill let you know what the results are. thanks.
 
well i started draining it at 9:30 pm, and woke up this morning at 7, letting it play on the same song over and over again while i slept. guess what, it didnt remember the play count for the song, and it didnt time stamp the song for the last played!!!! so now i have no idea what time it died! this ipod is so screwed up! i just synced my calendars, and i erased yesterdays events from ical, but theyre still on the ipod! i cant believe that this 6mo old ipod is so screwed up!!! any ideas??
 
i did the test today, played a song over and over. started at 9 am, and it died at 230pm. 5.5 hours. on a one hour charge, which is suppost to be 80% of the 10 hour charge, meaning i should have had 2.5 more hours than i did. ill try restetting my ipod and starting over again, but man, i hope i dont have to replace my ipod again!
 
I just had a problem like this last month. I discover that (at least in my case) the problem was that the battery wasn't actually charging completely but the iPod was showing a full charge.

Try this to check if you have the same problem (it fixed mine):

1. Fully charge your iPod
2. Play a song or two
3. Charge it again

In my case the battery charged again for a long time and got back to the 8 hours and change I was used to.

It is worth trying ...

thanks for the advice, if i have a porblem in the future, il try doing that. i did another test after doing a full 3hour charge, and i got a nice 8 hours of battery, instead of 5, and it wasnt dead yet i probaly would have got more if i had let it keep going. thanks for the advice.
