I did a search and didn't see anything that looked like the problem I'm having. hopefully this hasn't been answered somewhere else.
so here's the deal, I purchased a 120gb ipod classic 3 days ago to replace my 5th gen ipod video that was recently stolen. it originally connected and sync'd to my computer with no problems. on monday I plugged it in to my computer again, itunes froze and the ipod would not respond to anything. I unplugged it and reset it, connected it back to the computer after reopening itunes and the ipod sync'd fine. while listening to it later the ipod froze again and had to be reset. at one point I got a pop up saying, "your ipod needs to be reformatted for use with windows, would you like to run itunes to restore your ipod now?" I restored it and continued to have the same issues.
last night I made an appointment at the apple store and had one of the apple genius' look at it. he said he couldn't find anything wrong with it, but gave me a replacement anyway. I brought it home connected it to my computer and it sync'd fine and worked perfectly all day today. this evening when I got home I connected it back to my computer and nothing happened. itunes didn't freeze up this time, but the ipod did. I had to unplug the ipod and reset it before it would work again. after resetting it it sync'd to my computer fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, my computer is up to date with all the windows updates. I haven't had this issue with any other ipods. my old 5th gen worked flawlessly every time. my iphone has never had an issue. I have an old 2 gig ipod nano that works without issue and I can connect my roomates 5th gen video and it works fine. the only one I've had an issue with is this 120gb ipod classic, and this is the second one that has done this. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
