So.. Today I downloaded and installed the new iPod Classic firmware (2.0.1 I think) and now when I try to sync my music onto it, it loads about half of it then gets thrown into restore mode. Then I have to restore it and then start the process all over again.

I've tried syncing my music manually and automatically. I've tried just about everything. :|

Sounds like iTunes didn't send the payload of the OS correctly. I had this issue with a friend's iPod classic a year ago. iTunes 9 worked correctly with her iPod classic and it's been working great since. We thought the thing was dead.

I'd see if you could downgrade back to the old version through iTunes 9 or try installing the new update through iTunes 9.

Sadly you can't. With the update to iTunes 10, it changed the library file so you can't go back unless you have a backup of the library file.

Well.. Junk.. Looks like I'm stuck with an inoperable Classic.. :|
try this: connect your ipod to your computer, if itunes pops up close it. then hold down the menu and center buttons on your ipod it will reset but don't let go of the buttons and your ipod will enter dfu mode. now start itunes and follow the directions it gives you exactly. you also need to have your computer connected to the internet during this process.

Will try. Thanks

Go to the Apple store.
That's normally great advice, but the closest Apple store is ~250 miles away. Because Apple thinks that no one in Arkansas can afford Apple computers thus they don't put an Apple store here.

If its still under warranty you can call applecare and deal with it over the phone. But if its not try opening it up in Disk Utility and wiping it clean though that then open up iTunes (iTunes should still recognize it) and then reinstall the OS. I'm not 100% that this will work but I did have a similar problem with my iPod Video 30GB and this seemed to fix it.
