Hi everyone.

Here's the deal.

Some time this week, i had my iPod connected to my MBP listening to music trough iTunes and suddenly for some reason the iTunes stop recognising the iPod.

I tried to plug it in different USB sockets with different cables, and the only thing that happens is the light coming on, nothing else happens. I also tried connecting it to the dock but no go, although connecting a 1st gen iPod nano it works and it recognises.

I also tried to reboot it and put it on disk mode but even then it doesn't shows up on iTunes.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you in advance

Another thing

The iPod doesn't charges when connected, i've read about doing the diagnostic test, but it has to be charging.

Could it be the iPod power connector inside that broke?

thanks

Another up

When in disk mode i plug in the cable and the battery icon, shows the lighting symbol and disappears, and then shows up again and disappears again, it stays like this (flashing) for seconds and then it stays only with the battery icon (no lighting symbol).

I am thinking the docking port is dying/dead.

The problem is not from the dock.

2 iphones, 1 ipod touch, 1 ipod nano work perfectly on the dock

What Altemose is referring to is the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod. They get bent, dirty, and go out all the time. Unfortunately, it's connected directly to the logic board. So replacement is trivial. Though it can be done.

First I'd try cleaning it. Take a flashlight and inspect it. Sometimes a pin gets bent, or dirt/lint gets in the way of the pins preventing proper contact.
