Just got a ipod 3rd gen (with row of buttons at top) for practically free today. Pretty cool old school ipod to add to the collection.

2 questions:

1) how do you turn it off?

2) how are you supposed to connect it to a modern mac? I have firewire ports on my MBP and imac, but they are different than the connector on the ipod cable.

They don't have an off like an iPod Touch does. You can restart them, I think you hold down menu and play. Or hold down play to sleep it.

The iPod has Firewire 400. Your Macs have Firewire 800. They are compatible, you just need an adapter.
