iPod Ipod Classic 7th Gen - Battery Drains a lot more on shuffle mode

Does anyone else have this behavior? I can understand getting slightly less battery life when shuffling 13,000 songs versus going by artist, album, but it seems like I am lucky if I get 8 hours out of a battery life in shuffle mode vs almost 30 the other way.

The volume is technically 0 because I am using a FiiO E11 headphone amp that is connected through the 30 pin doc.. could it be the amp draining battery?

This thing is not even 2 years old and it also skips random songs that my other ipod classic (6th or 7th gen that I had for 3-4 years) never had a problem with.. my other one cannot sync music (I will add music and then when I unplug from the computer it doesn't "remember" having the new music so it's always empty).. anyway I am definitely considering putting a flash drive or SSD in my other one.

If this is an unmodded classic, think about it....you've got 13,000 songs all over the drive and it's skipping so its seeking all over the place.

I don't think the classic has a cache to put the "next up" songs into on shuffle mode, so basically your spinning the drive and head constantly shuffling through your library.

Yea it's unmodded. That makes sense if it doesn't cache. it. I am wondering which would be better on battery SSD or SD.. and what the largest battery I could stick in this thing.

The iPod does cache 4-5 of its upcoming songs to memory to avoid spinning up the drive.

SDXC u can go up to 256GB (512GB too but too expensive). mSATA SSD up to 1TB.

I think 256gb should be enough. I don't do video or lossless audio.

Yeah 256GB is a good choice more than plenty and not to expensive.

I ordered the adapter from Tarkan, and I will install a 256gb PNY SDXC. I am debating if I want to use the same back plate or if I just want to buy a pre-assembled one with a larger battery and headphone thingy already installed (saw for $15 on ebay so not bad).

If you want a bigger battery then go with the thick backplate. Yeah there's some bundles that come with all those parts on there which is good.
