So - I'm bit of an iPod click wheel n00b.

When I scroll through a long list, eventually, as my thumb starts to dislocate itself, a list of letters appears allowing me to fast scroll through.

Is there a way to initiate this list? It always appears randomly for me and is impossible to control, by the time it's appeared, we're flying through the alphabet to Z.

New thumbs or RTFM? Any tips?

I've experienced this as well (inconsistency), I think it's based on a number of rotations in a small amount of time... something like that.I find if I really concentrate and make smooth, quick rotations around the click wheel it'll pop up after 3-4. I'm interested in knowing how it actually works though.

Thanks JH, maybe I just need more practice.
Would be great to just 'flip this feature on' somehow as I've filled the 80GB up and tend to avoid flipping through because it is such a PITA.

it comes up when you re scrolling at a certain speed. it doesnt leave untill you lift your finger

Thanks. I obviously need more practice. Will try that keeping finger/thumb on method, that could be the clincher.

Am happy with the 80GB Classic in all other regards. Picked it up as a refurb $229 (Australian).
