iPod iPod Classic 80GB having issues. Also what HD is compatible for replacement?

I have an 80GB iPod Classic. (I think its a 6th Generation one, It was released after the iPod Video).

For a while now there has been issues with getting new music onto it.

Attempting to do manual sync of music results in extremely slow transfers...so much so it seems like the transfer has hanged midway.

Also, some tracks refuse to play, or stop in the middle of playing.

Doing HD check it comes up with the following:

Retracts: 63
Reallocs:591
Pending Sectors: 14
PowerOn Hours 81
Start/Stops: 109
Temp: Current 27c
Temp: Min 11c
Temp: Max 49c

Im not sure if these are good or bad?

If it is bad, then im thinking of perhaps replacing the hard drive in it, however im struggling to find a reliable source of information on compatible drives that would fit in it. Can anyone send me in the right direction? Thanks

Lots of reallocated sectors, and with them pending and having nowhere to go, it's the drive.

Luckily, it can be replaced. As long as you get a 5mm drive (thin) you should be able to put in an 80, 120, or 160. The 240GB is 8mm and the 6th gen 80gb caps at 128GB I think...

I'd have to do a little more research for things like the part numbers and zif connectors and adapters. But it's doable. There are various Samsung, Toshiba, and other drives that will work.

From what I can tell, something like this would work.

A brief google earlier threw up some info that stated that when replacing a HD in an iPod Classic it has to be the same size capacity. Has that info changed?
