iPod ipod classic breaks audiobook interface

I just picked up a 160GB iPod Classic and much to my disappointment discovered that the new GUI messes up the indexing of audiobooks in an important way. Earlier iPods up through the Video models include audiobooks in the artists list so that you can navigate to the artist and then to the audiobook and then to the part, if it's a multipart audiobook as often is the case with longer audiobooks from audible.com.

With the Classic audiobooks only appear in the flat audiobook list which is an unstructured list of audiobooks by parts. This is not at all desirable especially when listening to series of books where the titles of the books of the series aren't adjacent in the sort order that is used in listing the audiobook pieces in the audiobook list.

If I've overlooked a way of reverting to the prior interface convention on the "Classic" please let me know. I this is a real regression in functionality and wholly unnecessary.

Anyone figure out how to organize the audiobooks on the Ipod Classic?

I don't have any books from audible or iTunes, but I do import my own books on CD to my iPod classic. I've found that the audiobooks tab is pretty useless because it organizes every file by alphabetical order regardless of author or album. This is incredibly frustrating, because no book will play in the intended order. To get around this problem, I make a playlist for each book with all the files in the correct order. Then I can listen to the book normally. The only drawback to this is that I have to remember myself where I was if I want to go back to the book after listening to something else.

Is this an issue on the 120gb classic too?

What about on the 4th gen nano?

does using the audiobook builder fix these problems on all ipods?
