iPod iPod classic from Windows to Mac help....

Hi all,

I have a feeling this question has been asked many times, but I have some specifics.

I have an ipod classic on a windows machine with a fair bit of music, all of my music is on my external hard drive which has a drive letter of I:

Now when I restored my pc in the past i just took a copy of the iTunes folder with the libraries in from 'mymusic', then reinstalled itunes, copied the iTunes folder back to its original position and used the same drive for the music and it all worked fine.

What I want to do is shift it over to my mac and still use the external drive for the music location, is it possible to do this with the drives being named different, can I choose where iTunes looks for my music? or is there a simple way of doing this that I am not aware of?

Any help or advise would be great.

As long as the drive is formatted in a way that the mac can read it, you should be able to plug your external into your mac, hold down the option key as you start up iTunes it should ask you to choose a library then so just browse to your iTunes folder and select it.

Yeah the hardrive is readable on the mac.

my concern is that when I want to play the music in iTunes it won't be able to find it because will the path to the music will be I:/etc/etc as it was in windows. but on the mac it will be different because the harddrive is named instead of having the letter.....unless i'm misunderstanding how it works.

I don't think it should be a problem, I haven't done it between windows and a mac before though so I can't say for sure. But go ahead and try it, it can't hurt anything and it will probably work.

Just to follow up, I managed to get it all sorted and working fine, it was a case of copying the libraries over and opening it via the option key. Then it was just a case of pointing the location in the preferences > advanced to the location of the music.

Simple as that, classic apple
