I have an iPad 2 and an iPod classic (6th gen, 80 GB). My iPod's wall socket charger eventually broke after several years of faithful service, and I'm trying to avoid buying a replacement since I already have the iPad's charger, which is ostensibly compatible.

The iPad's 10W charger claims it should work with iPod Classic, but the iPod will not charge from it -- when I plug it in, the screen comes on, but goes off again when it times out. The battery icon does not acknowledge that it is plugged into wall power, and the battery does not charge. (I left it overnight to test.) Rebooting the iPod has no apparent influence on this.
The cord and connector are not malfunctioning; when I plug the same cable into a USB port on my computer, the iPod charges and syncs normally.

The iPod also does not charge from a third-party iPad charger I bought for my office, which also claimed to be iPod Classic compatible.

Any thoughts?
