Hi,

My Ipod Classic 160GB has been having problems since i upgraded to the latest version of iTunes 8.0.

When i connect my ipod to my powerbook it identifies it no problem (ctrl + i shows that i have used space on the ipod). Its when i connect to iTunes the problem starts.

Firstly iTunes doesn't notice my ipods correct name (Johns iPod)..it instead just says 'iPod. Then it fails to allow me access to my ipod in iTunes, and the following message appears:

'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "Johns iPOd". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore this iPod to factory settings.'

Now i won't do this as i've all my music etc already on the ipod and i know i'll have to add them all again if i do this.

When i quit iTunes and disconnect my iPod, my iPod says it has nothing on it now, despite when i plug it in and apple + i it and it says has used space on it.

Is there any way i can get iTunes to recognise my iPod again? without having to restore it every time i connect?

Thanks

I am having the same problem with my 30 gig, I can't get a summary tab to pop up, so that i can restore it. Itunes just starts up with a message saying that the ipod is in "recovery mode"

Any ideas anyone? Its getting depressing.

Thanks

Me, too...

We are also having problems with our iPod Classic, plug it in, iTunes doesn't acknowledge it, whole system hangs up, can't synch, can't eject, unplug the dang thing out of frustration and THEN iTunes shows the iPod is plugged in?! WTF, this is seriously annoying, just got this one back from having it looked at cause we couldn't get any music to synch to it, got message from iTunes saying the disk could not be read or written to... got it back from Apple saying there's nothing wrong with it, now this! Just updated all the software, must be a bug... HELP!!!!
