iPod iPod Classic Newbie

Hi. I've never owned an iPod Video and/or Classic. I currently own an iPhone. I was wondering what are people's opinions on the Classic for viewing movies? I'm thinking of picking up the 160 Gb flavor to store my ever growing digital movie collection on. Is it going to be a pain in the neck to view movies on "that" small of a screen? I have watched a few movies on the iPhone and have found it very useable. Does anyone have any comments Classic/Video v. iPhone on movie watching? Are there any accessories for the Classic similar to the Video where you can output to a TV? How do the movies tend to look on a TV? My plan for this device is purely to have an easy way to bring around my movie collection with me while traveling and be able to output to a TV if need be.

Never used an iPhone, but here's my story.

I took a classic to Spain with me. It worked amazingly, I was able to watch all my TV shows and movies, it kept me from getting homesick, the screen was small, but I'm used to a large TV, so anything would look small, bla bla bla...

It sucks as an iPod. the interface is jittery, the scroll wheel doesn't really scroll all that well, and if Apple made a 12gb nano, I'd get that instead. But, it has a hard drive, and it holds everything real well, which is why you're going to end up getting it even though it's not all that good.

Going from 5G 60 GB to Touch I can say that 5G was terrible for watching movies. The 4:3 2.5 inch 320x240 screen is soooo small compared to 15:10 3.5" screen with higher resolution!

Excuse my ignorance but do the older Videos and the Classic have the same resolution screen? Also, are there any accessories for the Classic that will allow you to output the video you watching to a television screen like on the older Video?

The iPod Classic has the same 320x240 resolution of older video iPods as well as the new Nanos. Current iPods can output video to a television using composite or component cables.

I've been using an iPod classic (80gb) for quite a while now and I have like 65 gb of movies stored on it. The screen is small (iPhone's or Touch's screen would be better I suppose) , but it's still great to watch TV shows and movies!
I'd say go and buy one, it will serve you well!

I have an 80Gb classic; the screen is fine for a TV show or a video Podcast but I wouldn't dream of watching a movie on it. But then I wouldn't dream of watching a movie on an iPod touch either :-S

I think I'm pretty much sold on the Classic. My other question is which cable I should get to use with the iPod. I want to pick up a cable that can output a Classic, Video, or Touch to the TV for less than $50.
