iPod iPod classic Question

Nobody can tell you if it's "worth it" for you to buy an iPod with a click wheel (do you mean scroll wheel? Because click wheel iPods haven't been available for years) because worth is an individual metric.
If you have a large music collection, the iPod Classic might be the only solution for you. If you don't, you can probably get by without one.

Actually you're right; I was confused. The first iPod had a scroll wheel which physically moved when you turned it; the models since have all been referred to as the click wheel.
In my opinion it still is the best ipod when it comes to storing larger music libraries, or you can use it as a file storage so for me it was worth it but it depends if you want to do either of the 2 than get one.
If you need to carry your entire library with you, then the iPod classic is really your only option. In addition, the cost/storage ratio is much better on the classic then say, a 64GB iPod touch too. It's pretty much a pure music player. In contrast, if your inclined to film watching and such then I'd steer towards the iPod touch line.

As others have said, it depends on what you need.
Classic is superior because
1) The capacity
2) click wheel means you don't have to look at the screen every time you want to fiddle with it to change tracks or volume
3) Sound quality is decent (I can't say great because Cowon and Sandisk both spank it)
4) If you like to hook up videos to your TV this is the only one with any decent capacity to hold seasons of TV shows from iTunes. I have a 240GB 5th gen that sits by my TV and I put all my purchased movies on it and watch it on my 42 inch TV.
Classic is inferior to other models because:
1) moving parts (though quite honestly the problems with hard drives are very overplayed and hard drives have improved over the years. I've dropped my 120GB a dozen times and it still kicks)
2) bulky
3) no app support, internet and smaller screen vs the iPod Touch
4) no radio vs the iPod Nano though I do believe the add-on is still available for it.
I own a iPod Touch 4th gen, iPod Classic 120GB, 4th gen shuffle, 3rd gen shuffle and 6th gen nano... the classic gets used the most out of all of them, its just so much more convenient to hold most (all in my case) of your songs just in case you are in the mood to listen to a certain song.
I wouldn't buy it unless you need it or have money to blow.

Currently it is the only iPod that stores all my music (approx 80gb). For that reason I tend to use it most often and is my favourite iPod.
It just worries me about its longevity. I had a 4g iPod Photo that had not been abused but the drive broke after about 4 years of fairly regular use. It will be real shame if they no longer make this model. (actually if the bump the memory of the iPod touch it won't be too bad, but I already have an iPhone so don't need all the features for listening to music)

Like others have said I own a iPad iPod touch and looking to get an iPhone and the classic remains my Fav product it hold most of my music library 80g and as another post stated my most used product it would be really ashame if the discontinue it's sturdy reliable I have nothing but good things to say about old faithful
I really really want to buy the ipod classic for many months now.. I am fed up with having to rotate my music on my iphone (32 gb is not enough as I also take looooooads of pictures/videos).
my main concern is that the screen is a 'tad' inferior and the menus are a 'tad' slower - compared to the menus of the iphone etc...
and since it's been so long since the latest 'ipod classic update' - I am still hoping (naively?) that they'll release an upgraded version.. slimmer, faster, with yet more space... I think iPod Classic is the only one they haven't updated in YEARS now? - it's been 816 days since the last update.
What do you guys think? Am I being naive?

The days of updated iPod Classics are over. The 160GB looks to be the last model, but I'm sure Apple will keep producing it because it's profitable for them to do so. I'm going to pick one up for myself as a Christmas present next week. Mostly for nostalgia and to use in my car as the main music system.
