iPod iPod Classic Replacement

Alright, we'll, I guess I'm going to have to get it replaced because the random pausing/skipping is interfering with me being able to listen to one song without it acting up. I tried 2 restores, and used MP3 Scan+Repair on all files, but the problem still persists. I went to the apple store and the genius pretty much told me I have to buy a new one or replace it for $129.

However, my question is, can't I buy the AppleCare for $69, and they can replace it with that? The genius suggested that I buy a new one cause he *claims* from the date mines was purchased (Jan 2010) Apple made a hardware revision but I don't know anything to support that claim?

As much as I don't want the same hardware, I'm willing to take the chances if I can just pay $69 instead of $129 or $230.

You are past the 1-year window in which you have the option to extend Applecare on an iPod for another year.

You can only buy AppleCare within the first year of your purchase. If you bought it in January 2010, you can't buy coverage for it now.

I'm not sure what the genius is talking about hardware revisions for. There might have been one since you last purchased it, but that wouldn't prevent you from getting covered if you had previously bought AppleCare.

Because I wasn't sure if I wanted to replace it with the same hardware to refrain from the same problem happening. Over at the support forms, theres a long thread about the random pausing but none looks like the same exact issue I'm having (pausing/skipping/randomly turning while sleeping & playing).

I can go either way, but I may just get a new one with the AppleCare cause my last one died on me as well, so this is the 3rd iPod in 3 years.

Which Gen iPod do you have? What year/model # is it? I've had mine for 4 years.. this thing is a beast
