EDIT: I didn't have the latest version of iTunes installed. I updated and now it's working fine again.

I have a 5G iPod that has worked perfectly for me for years. Just recently, I tried plugging it in to my PC and it would not show up in iTunes, though it was recognized and the icon appeared in My Computer.

I checked to be sure I have the latest version of iTunes and the iPod software, and then tried to restore my iPod. No luck. It would simply show the restore dialog box but the progress bar did not move. It took switching the iPod over to disk mode to be able to restore it.

Now that I've done that, and it shows up in iTunes again, I'm trying to reload my 2.5k songs, 4 games and assorted podcasts and audio books. I succeeded with syncing up 4 playlists as a test. Then I tried to add the rest of my media. It's been "syncing" for over 12 hours now. Surely it shouldn't take that long! I gave up. I don't know what else to do.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
