I am seriously considering buying a iPod Classic in place of my 5 year old iPod Video due to my battery not lasting as long on the iPod Video (even after I replaced the battery) and need for a little more space....I was reading a lot of reviews on how the sound quality is a LOT better on the older iPod's, specifically the iPod Video...the new ones sound very compressed and "tinny" I have heard. For those of you who have both or went from the iPod video to iPod classic, what are your thoughts?

What about volume level, is it less than the 5g ipod vid?? I'm in the US so this wont be an EU version....
I went from a 5G, to a 6G, and back again.
If you like the sound of the Classic, great! I don't...but I am a picky mofo with Grado headphones and lots of Lossless files on his iPod, so...

I was in EXACTLY the same situation as you. I had a Gen5 Video 60GB that the battery was getting worse and worse on. So I bought the new 160 GB Classic.
I think it's a great unit. I'd say the sound is BETTER than the 5G. And those buffer problems that plagued the 160 GB classic being sold a few years ago are GONE due to moving to a single-platter drive. This new 160 is really thin, has much newer software with more features, and feels rock solid.
I've used Etymotic earphones for almost 20 years and the sound is quite good on this new unit. And the level of hiss (the floor level) seems to be lower, so the output sounds "quieter" (in terms of noise) as well.
