iPod iPod Classic to get dropped from the line-up?

I have heard, and the guy at the Apple Store, at the "iPod Bar", well, that's what they call it, but it's really just a guy standing there, with a shelf of iPods behind him, Lol. Well he told me when I was buying my Apple TV2 and iPod Classic in December that the iPod Classic is there least popular iPod, and that there is no real use for it anymore, so it may be dropped from the line-up. He also said Apple has bothered to update it in almost 2 years, and that might be another hint.

I hope it's not discontinued, I actually like the iPod Classic. I use my iPod Touch 8GB for apps, because theres not much space on it, and my Nano for radio... I use my iPod Classic to load ALL of my media on it, like a base station. Lol.. and then I use my Apple TV for viewing everything, on the big screen....
I don't want my cycle to get all messed up. Lol

Prolly just he's thoughts on the issue...I'm inclined to agreed with him, but not until solid state memory is cheaper.

I'd prefer they keep it until the iPod touch gets passed 160, but I can see them doing it sooner with the 128GB iPod touch

Apple Retail employees don't generally know any product plans, all they can do is guess (and they're actually not supposed to even do that.)

It's always possible the iPod Classic will be dropped, kind of surprised it hasn't been by now, but then again, as long as Apple still sells enough to keep it alive, it'll probably stick around. It's not like they've done any serious development on it in a while anyway.

It is in my professional opinion that the iPod Classic will be dropped once the iPod Touch reaches the magical 128GB capacity.

Its also possible that the 220GB recently announced could be implemented into the iPod Classic for one more run.

Its interesting to see apple say that it is the lowest selling model, yet it is almost always ahead of the iPod Nano/Shuffle as best sellers at amazon.com and has been in the Top 100 for 514 days.

It really blows that apple seems to refuse to update capacities on anything.

I really hope they don't get rid of it.. because if they do I am sure they are going to stop giving support on the Classics, and never send firmware updates ever again.

The reason I like the Classic is because the storage. I use it to hold everything, and I love it. It's nothing special, it's supposed to be nice and simple.

The only thing that really would be stopping them at this point is that it was there first iPod ever... why remove it..>

I still have my 80GB classic from mid 2008 and don't really see much reason for the smaller ipods. I like to keep most of my music and video on me, especially since in most cases you can't take your computer with you.

I would only buy another ipod if they updated the touch to above 64GB. 128GB would be perfect. For now I'd prefer to stick with what works.

Because those hard drives found in the classic are getting harder to find.

I think Toshiba and Samsung are both in the phonebook, and they will sell any number that Apple wants.

There are people who want a player that has tons of storage and doesn't break the bank. If Apple doesn't sell it, they will buy something else.

The lastest news according to another Mac news site is that supplies of the "6.5G" iPod classic with the 160 GB hard drive are rapidly disappearing from retail channels.

It's either Apple dropping the iPod classic or they are going to do one last hardware "refresh" with a new 220 GB hard drive (Toshiba just shipped one recently that fits in the iPod classic case).

Since I have an iPhone, paying a lot of money for a iPod Touch would be a waste. All that I need is more storage space, not apps or WiFi. That's another reason why I hope the Classic stays alive.

I'm a big fan of the classic and I have a iPhone 4, so like others, I don't want to buy a Touch down the road.

The smaller iPod's simply don't have the storage I need.
