iPod Ipod classic wont turn on

I have a Ipod Classic 15G and it won't turn on. I plug it in to check the charger and the apple blinks on and then immediately goes off. I toggled the hold switch back and forth and held down the menu and the center button and the same thing happened. I have tried this repeatedly with no better results. Any ideas?

Are you connecting it to a computer or to a wall outlet with an adapter of sorts? If connecting to a computer, have you charged it successfully, or has it been recognized by iTunes before on that same computer? Could the port you connect it to be USB 1.1 instead of 2.0?
