Okay, I've tried to upgrade an iPod color (4th gen classic) with a compact flash drive and now I have an issue.

First, I kept getting an error whenever I tried to restore the iPod in iTunes. error 1430 or error 1432. At some point I connected the adapter wrong and nearly blew up the battery. I had a replacement battery and installed that. I still got the 1430 or 1432 issue so I put the old HD back in thinking there might be an issue with the CF adapter or CF drive itself.

Now, it wont even stay connected in iTunes or my computer. It connects for a second or two, disappears and reappears repeating this continuously.

I've put the iPod into diagnostic mode and every test I had it run comes back as 'Pass' or 'OK' It stays on without issue in diagnostic mode, but as soon as I put it back to standard mode or disk mode it goes right back to the logo and apple support folder icon, then back to the logo and apple support folder icon again.

Is there anything I can do? Did I trash my perfectly good iPod? I don't want to find a replacement if I can fix this.

Thanks.

If you haven't figured it out yet, did you try formatting the iPod drive (using Disk Utility if you're on a Mac, not sure about Windows) to match the computer's file system? I think I might have had to do that before it recognized it properly in iTunes when I put an SD card in my iPod classic 4th gen.
