iPod Ipod Connection not showing on desktop

Hi everyone, I have a problem. When I plug my ipod into my macbook pro it shows up on itunes, but not on my desktop as an icon. I have tried many cables and different ports. Also I have tried using a different macbook pro. What am I doing wrong? please help me

what do you mean some iPods are supposed to 'mount' on the desktop??

is this only a Mac thing?

Assuming your ipod can act as a flash drive, just enable the option in the first tab in itunes. Just click the ipod on itunes and on the first tab, go to the bottom and enable the disk use thing.
