hi all,

I have a 80 gb classic and I'm unable to add any music or restore without getting beachballed to death. I can download the update, but once it tries to actually restore it, it dies. I've tried erasing the hdd through disk utility, but it says its unable to UNmount.

That being said, what's already ON the ipod works perfectly fine, there are no problems there.

I have already appdeleted itunes and reinstalled with no changes in results. I've search the intarwebs and found people with similar problems, but no solution that works for me since I can't restore. Today I took it to the genius bar and surprise surprise, they have no solution other than pay 129$ for another ipod. :/

I feel entirely comfortable replacing whatever's wrong with my ipod, but I don't know if this is a logic board problem or a hard drive, or perhaps something else entirely.

thanks for any help!
