Hi,

I'm looking for two docking stations both in the £30-40 range and would appreciate any recommendations. Both need to be mains powered and should charge the iPod. Both need to have speakers.

1. iPod Nano 3G (one before the new slim one)
Ideally with remote control but not essential. Anything else is a bonus.
Price as close as possible to £30 (or below)

2. iPod Nano 4G (latest slim nano with accelerometer)
Needs to have alarm clock feature and remote control.
Price might go as high as £45 but ideally below £40.

Thanks in advance,
Craig.

Hi,

I'm not in the habit of bumping my own posts and won't do it again here but would appreciate any recommendations on docking stations or at least any compatibility issues to watch out for. I understand there are issues with some docks not charging some iPods but I'm not sure what exactly the problem is.

Also, if this question has been asked before then please let me know and I'll do some more searching. I did some searching before posting but couldn't find much in the way of recent recommendations for docks.

Thanks,
Craig.

iPhone 3g, iPod touch 2g, and iPod nano 4g will not charge on a Firewire-based dock.

Thanks, if I understand correctly, the only universal way to charge all device is via 5 volt USB - correct?

I have an iPhone 3G so can I assume that a 4G iPod Nano will work with any dock which works with my phone?

Regards,
Craig.

Yes. Anything that can charge an iPhone 3g can also charge a 2g iPod touch and a 4g iPod nano

Not wanting to hijack your thread but I am also trying to find dock/speaker systems in this price range for the Nano 4G for my daughters Christmas present - there definitely appears to be a lack of product for the Nano 4G.

I guess this has to do with Apple changing the charging mechanism.

Hi,
Yes I'm struggling to find a product which will definitely support the 4G. I'd love to be able to go to Apple and buy something in the £100+ range but my budget is around half that amount.

Good luck! Please let me know if you find anything suitable.

Thanks,
Craig.

Hi,
I decided to go forthis item.

It's a Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 speaker dock. I've found plenty of reviews which state that it does charge the iPhone 3G and if that is the case it should also charge the iPod Nano 4G...

Cheers,
Craig.
