iPod docks???

I used to think iPod docks were completely pointless and an absolute waste of money. Now after recently getting a stereo system in my house from my step dad moving in, I've been using my iPod as a stereo through his speakers. It is becoming a hassle to plug in my iPod to charge and play at the same time now because there are cables coming out both ends: the bottom to charge and the top a mini-stereo cable connecting to the stereo system.


I was browsing iLounge looking for some docks but there are just so many and they are so expensive i got frustrated halfway through the list and figured I'd come here to ask


So, can anyone give me guidance on if i should get a dock (since i still think they are rip offs at $40+) and if so, what dock? I really just need a cheaper dock that gets the job done...remote isn't really needed unless the price is good and video connection isn't necessary, i really just need it to charge and be able to connect to stereo. I was leaning towards the Apple Universal Dock just because it's seemed the cheapest and that's the price i'm trying to max out at

Yes, I also agree that the docks are WAY OVERPRICED!! I did have to slip and get a universal dock with the remote, because i wanted an easy way to hook up to my stereo, tv, and keeping it charged it at the same time. I do not understand why they are sooo freaking expensive...it seems like they can be $20 or $30 ABSOLUTELY MAX. But ya, I think the Apple Universal Dock works excellent, but I have never tried anything else. Ya, this didnt help you much, sorry i tried ....

have you checked the marketplace? magid is selling a few docks for real cheap (8-9 bucks shipped). they're not the ones with IR, though. but i bought one just to give my ipod a home on my desk (instead of having it lay just anywhere) simply because it was just SO cheap.

i was looking but the only one i saw that was selling was a fellow trying to charge $34 for his uni... i dont need IR i just need one that will fit my 5G and has a line out. Thank you though.


If anyone sees this and is interested in selling, feel free to PM me btw. I'll appreciate any more guidance you can give on either Apple or third party docks...

Yeah, I remember that uni that you're talking about. That was a rip-off. But no, these are much, much cheaper.

Thanks, yeah it looks like i'm gonna take Magid's Photo Dock for $9 shipped... good deal

Ebay, is also your friend for such items as well, if you are into that sort of thing , lots of knock off imports and such for fairly cheap, have one that we got off of eBay, that works great on my better halfs PC, now just to pick one up with a remote for the stereo.

I don't trust eBay period. Way too shady for my taste

EDIT: i decided to wait on the dock and not buy now from the marketplace for various reasons, mostly being that my birthday is September 1st so i may be getting gift certificates... so if anyone else has an idea they'd like to put forward about a dock, go ahead.
