iPod ipod does noghting help...

I have a ipod classic 30gb (2007)
i didnt use it for almost 1.5 years and now i does absolutely noghting, if i hook it up to my mac or just to electricity there is 0 response...

does anybody know whats wrong with the thing?

Most likely the battery is 100% dead. I would try to plug it into a wall if you can. It likely needs more juice. How long did you keep it plugged into your computer? If you left it for more than 10 minutes then I'd say the battery is toast.
 
plugged it in to a wall for half a day.....

is there an easy way to open the ipod/ check for whats wrong with it?
 
Replacing the battery's easy.

By the way, do you mean you have an iPod 5G (video)? It has a white/black plastic front. I don't think the Classic (aluminium front) ever came in 30GB

If you've got a video buy a battery on ebay and hook it up. You can't test the theory without a new battery, but they cost buttons. Plenty of videos on youtube showing you how to do it.

I expect it's the battery. If it was the hard drive it'd have eventually turned on and given you a sad face icon or something.

so just buy a battery on the web and then replace?
how much will that cost in €'s??

I agree. Plug it into a wall, and see if that will work. If not, the battery is toasted. But I know you can get them pretty cheap if you just google them.

As far as opening it, you can use a guitar pick really, and insert it between the front and back panel and gently release the clips (Clips are molded on the front and latch onto the back). Once you have the clips released, lay it on the table, face up and top pointing away from you and open it by flipping the front to the right (There is a ribbon to your headphones right there that you will rip if you try to go the other way). Once inside, the battery is very obvious and attached to the back panel. Be careful removing it, because the adhesive is tough and you could accidently rip the headphone ribbon running underneath it. Best way is to pop it out using that guitar pick and putting it between the top of the battery and the top of the iPod and just popping it out. once it is out, simply unplug the battery and plug in the replacement one. Reverse the process to put it back together. Don't worry about trying to secure the battery back down, it will stay in place just fine once its closed up.
