iPod iPod dosen't work

Ok I'm new here and I have no clue what I'm doing. Anyways I have a iPod(3rd generation) and it doesn't work. It can't play,skip, go to the menu, etc. The only thing it can do is turn on. And when I want to turn it off I have to wait until the screen turns dark and then flip the switch to off. None of the uttons ( Yeah I know I spelled that wrong. The " " on my key oard dosen't work. Get it? The letter after A dosen't work. Sorry) work. I keep pressing it and it still dosen't work. It hasn't even een a year since I had it. Please help me.

I would connect it to your computer and do a software restore in iTunes.
