New York, Baby!
I tried, really tried, to wean myself away from Apple and OSX.

- Gave my MacBook to my sister, got a Netbook
- Took OSX off of my Dell desktop, used various Linux Distros but settled with Ubuntu
- Replaced my dieing iPhone with a Nokia N900

When Apple announced the iPad, my ears did prick up. Then on Friday, the worst thing happened. Someone brought in their very own iPad straight from the US of A and let me play with it during my lunch break and I hate to admit it, but it is what I wanted my netbook to be!

I'm (hopefully) flying to New York on May 5th, so one thing on my agenda now is to spring for an iPad. Now, I'll need something to put media onto it. There's no Windows in my house (of the Microsoft kind - that'd be grim if my house had NO WINDOWS!) and I don't have any Apple hardware that runs. At the moment, I've dusted off my copy of Snow Leopard and installed it on my computer for when I get my iPad, but when I'm paid in June, I will be buying a lovely iMac :) And then in August I'll get my fiancée an iPad too.

Damn you Jobs! You've gone and done it again!

Resistance is futile

I don't get it
Why would you want to specifically go anti-Apple?

Gettin' teased by your gaming buddies?

The reason I usually go anti-apple is Jobs draconian control over his app empire. Having said that, I bowed to the almighty ipad (and ipod touch) grr

I don't get it. Does it personally affect you? You have a choice of, what is it, 180,000 apps. Unless you're a dev yourself (and wish to simultaneously develop for multiple platforms or develop edgy apps,) I don't see why most people would feel offended and the need to "go anti-apple" like this. It just seems limiting. If you like the tool, buy the tool and live with what limitations it has. I don't see many myself, but maybe that's just me.

The 'draconian control' over the 'app empire' is exactly why it is such a worthwhile and successful platform.

What seems limiting? Being AntiApple? Actually you can get whatever you want at the app store as long as it is apple approved. I dont feel offended, more generally frustrated/angry. Google Voice: DENIED. Adobe Flash: DENIED. Google Latitude:DENIED. Pulitzer Winner's App: DENIED. Plenty of good apps denied. Podcasting apps have been denied

Initially Apple didnt want/wasnt going to have Apps. Then they do a 180. Then No Bluetooth Stereo because it cant ever sound good enough, but then a 180 on it. Then no multitasking. well until OS4 since they are feeling heat from Google. Also its about time they are putting a high res screen in their newest iphone. Its about time.

It was a couple of things, the Open Source philosophy really appeals to me and Apple not supporting A2DP on the first gen iPhone (even though that was blatantly an artificial limitation).

Amen, I'm pretty taken by the iPad myself!

steviem, you are so funny! :D

Why thank you :) I'm gonna be here for a while again. Can't wait to get my iPad, join the herd again, and play some Madden on it!

Then after that get my iMac and get linux back on the Dell. Nothing's better than Linux as a server (just it's still not right for me as a desktop) As a phone OS it's pretty good, but you never know, I'll probably end up selling my N900 for an iPhone 3GS or 4G or whatever they want to call it!
