I have a 40 GB iPod and the hard drive died. Unfortunately, I'm about 2/3 of the way through a trip in Europe too. So, no music for me until I get home. The hard drive is very obviously dead. The data on it isn't important, but I was curious if anyone knew how much the service repair for an out of warranty iPod would cost. I was stupid and didn't get Applecare, which I realized I didn't have as soon as it broke.

I was also thinking my travel insurance might cover it, but I have to check out the policy when I get home. Backpacking through Europe has been a little rough on other things I've brought, even though I really try to baby my iPod. But, if the insurance doesn't cover it, I guess I'll be paying for a repair.
