iPod Ipod help wanted

Hi I am new to all of this and i hope someone can help me.
I had windows xp on my old laptop which has died so i got this lovely new apple mac. Problem is i can't work out how to transfer music from my ipod to the mac.
Also i have put all our photo's and of course entire itunes library onto an external hard-drive but the mac don't seem to recognize what is on it to put it onto the mac.
Please please please tell me how to do it in very simple easy to follow instructions, i am losing the will!!!

Try looking at this. Not sure about the photos though...

Edit-Nevermind, I dont think any of those would work on mac/iPod touch. Try a search on google.

Some apps are both OS X and iPod touch compatible.
