OK, here's the beta: a friend in Hong Kong gave me an iPod but it doesn't show up on my desktop or in iTunes. It's a 120 GB Classic; I'm using a Intel MacBookPro with 10.4.11 with iTunes 9.1.1 (that I've removed and reinstalled, etc). The iPod works fine on my stereo and my old iPod works fine with my computer, so it's not a port or cable issue; folks at the apple store looked at it's serial # and said that it should work fine with my machine/software combo and that the only option was to let them restore it. I've reset reset it several times but don't want to restore it because I'd rather not lose his music. Any other options? Thanks

have you tried any 3rd party software like expod? maybe you can pull the files off and then do a restore.

tried, failed

Tried it, but the problem is that my iPod doesn't even appear as an icon on my desktop, iTunes, etc. So I can't see the files that I'd like to download.

I'm sorry buddy but you will have to restore. If you can't get anything to work... that's the only way... sorry :(

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the help. Now at least I can wipe it clean with a clean conscience...
