iPod ipod lists lower available space

just purchased a used 80gb ipod - it is engraved on the back with 80gb - however in the ipod settings it shows 21gb have been used with 7 gb remaining - why is this different - where is the additional 50gb?

Try restoring the ipod to see if that helps
